Activists of Youth Congress, KSU vandalise Canara Bank office

Tension prevailed at three other branches of the bank in the district with activists of YC and KSU taking out separate marches.

THIRUVANANTHAPRUAM: KSU and Youth Congress activists on Wednesday vandalised the regional office of Canara Bank here in protest against the suicide of a mother and her daughter who allegedly faced harassment from bank officials for non-repayment of housing loan.

The KSU and YC workers took out a big procession to the regional office and held a demonstration. The leaders demanded action against the bank officials including registration of murder cases. The protests took place a couple of hours before the police found suicide note written by the woman attributing the extreme step to family feud and harassment by husband and his relatives.

About 25 activists of these organisations barged into the bank office and vandalised the front office. They even manhandled the security personnel guarding the main door. Subsequently the police swung into action, arrested the activists and removed them from the site.

Tension prevailed at three other branches of the bank in the district with activists of YC and KSU taking out separate marches. The protesters also blocked roads at some places.
