'Secunderabad Cantonment Board' VP not in a hurry to vacate
Hyderabad: A change of guard in the Secunderabad Cantonment Board is on the cards with the tenure of SCB vice-president currently held by TRS ward 5 member J. Rama Krishna having ended on April 29.
There are three elected representatives from the TRS party eyeing the position. The V-P is second in command, and is a civilian elected by the citizens. The president of the Board is a senior Army officer.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, TRS Ward I member J. Maheshwar, said, “It is for the TRS ministers and high command to decide on the next pick for Cantonment vice-president. This is likely to happen towards the month-end. According to the agreement made by sitting V-P J. Rama Krishna, he would serve for one year only. The agreement was made in the presence of TRS party leaders and ward members.”
The ward members in the race are J. Maheshwar, J. Lokanadham and K. Pandu Rangam Yadav, elected ward members for VIII and VI wards respectively.
In case the current vice-president resigns, the fight is between J. Maheshwar and J. Lokanadham, both from the TRS party.
However, the sitting V-P does not seem to be in a hurry to vacate his seat. When contacted he said, “I will continue to be in power as long as I perform well and high command will decide whether I should continue or not based on my performance.”
According to a source, Mr Rama Krishna is asking for a three-month extension in order to carry out pending work.
The eight TRS ward members were elected in 2015. S. Keshav Reddy served for two years as V-P, followed by the current V-P J. Rama Krishna. The tenure of a SCB V-P is five years.
