Man pre-planned acid attack: Anjani Kumar

Mr Kumar was announcing the arrest of A. Pramod, 32, who had thrown acid on Apollo Hospital nurse Jisha Shaji at about 5.30 pm on May 10.

Hyderabad: Police commissioner Anjani Kumar said on Tuesday that the police had deployed eight teams to different places to nab a man who had attacked a nurse here with acid last week. “Eighty kilometres from Palakad (in Kerala) in a remote village of Attappadi in a dense forest we were able to trace him,” Mr Kumar said.

Mr Kumar was announcing the arrest of A. Pramod, 32, who had thrown acid on Apollo Hospital nurse Jisha Shaji at about 5.30 pm on May 10.

Pramod had proposed marriage to the victim, who turned him down and started avoiding him. He created a fake Facebook ID and used to interact with Jisha.

Mr Kumar said Pramod had carried the acid with him in a water bottle to the city from Kerala. He had suspected that he would find it difficult to purchase acid in a new place.

Mr Kumar said the condition of the victim was stable and she has suffered eight to ten per cent burns due to attack.

Pramod has been sent to judicial remand for further investigation and the commissioner said he would ensure the case ends in conviction.
