Hyderabad: GHMC has decided to stop all civil works relating to the Charminar Pedestrianisation Project (CPP) during the holy month of Ramzan. Even though the corporation has completed all pavement works, it is yet to finish the under ground cabling system, beautification works like ornamental lights, and installing benches. Apart from this, the civic body also has to take up the construction of bridge near Salar Jung Museum to accommodate hawkers, parking complexes and other related works.

K. Srinivas, director, town planning, said the corporation has already completed conservation and restoration works. Underground ducting for laying electricity cables, water and sewage lines will be taken up later.

Besides this, placing of uniform sign boards, ground level parking, shifting of electric poles will be carried out only after Ramzan.

Regarding the shifting of hawkers, Mr Srinivas said any action would be taken only according to the High Court’s direction.

He affirmed that the GHMC is not against hawkers and there would be only mild regulations in the pedestrianised area around the monument. However, details are yet to be worked out, he said.

He said a meeting will be held to finalise the designs of facades and bridges near Salar Jung Museum.
