Wall collapse: BBMP, govt, none visited us, say families
Bengaluru: Though two lives were lost in a tragic accident after a wall collapsed near Johnson Market on Sunday, neither the state government nor the BBMP, which is the custodian of the market, has came forward to announce any relief to the families of the deceased.
Families members said that that the government did not even have the courtesy to contact them. They blamed the BBMP for the tragedy as the wall measuring 7 feet in height and 3 feet in width did not have any foundation at all.
The government has not taken up any works even after announcing in the recent state budget that heritage structures Russell Market, K.R. Market and Johnson Market will be developed.
Repeated calls to Mayor G. Padmavathi and BBMP Commissioner Manjunath Prasad remained unanswered.
Zaman wanted to be an engineer
The 10-year-old Zaman Raza, who was injured after a wall collapsed near Johnson Market on Sunday evening, died on Monday.
Zaman’s cousin Waseem Abbas told Deccan Chronicle that he was a very friendly and obedient child and always helped others. Zaman had passed sixth standard and was excited to go back to school in June. “He wanted to become an engineer and was very good at studies,” Waseem said.
The other victim, 45-year-old auto driver Abdul Kareem, died on the spot on Sunday. Abdul’s sister was shocked to learn about his death a few minutes after he left her house. “He came home to suprise his sister. About 10 minutes after leaving my sister got a call that Abdul was no more,” Abdul’s brother-in-law A. Salam said.
