Telangana: KT Rama Rao for open defecation free districts
Hyderabad: Municipal administration and urban development minister K.T. Rama Rao wants all municipal commissioners in the state to have data regarding the towns that they work in, including resources, the needs of people, and development plans, on their fingertips.
He believes that towns will only develop when their commissioners have a thorough understanding of the issues. Mr Rama Rao chaired a meeting with all the municipal commissioners, and gave them until December to make their districts open defecation free.
He lauded a few of them who had made progress in the area, and expressed dissatisfaction when he found the progress inadequate. The minister asked them to ensure that every house had a toilet.
Mr Rama Rao asked commissioners to develop dump yards in their areas. He asked them to set up medicinal and fragrance plants within the dump yard premises. He also stressed on the need for every sanitation worker to wear a radium jacket, boots, and gloves while on duty.
Mr Rama Rao asked municipal commissioners to open counters for the sale of LED bulbs, tube lights and fans, for the benefit of people.
