Telangana: IT layoffs common in industry, says KT Rama Rao

During the last year, Telangana recorded Rs 75,000crore worth of IT exports.

Hyderabad: Noting that there has been an over-emphasis on lay-offs in IT industry, Telangana IT minister K.T. Rama Rao has said this is common in the software industry. “This trend is natural in IT companies and it happens every year,” the minister told the media on the sidelines of an event here on Monday.

Replying to a query on the state’s revenue from IT and IT-enabled exports in 2016-17, KTR did not disclose figures, but said that they were likely above all-India growth rates.

During last year, Telangana recorded Rs 75,000crore worth of IT exports. “Our numbers in terms of IT growth rates have been impressive. Unofficial figures received from a few agencies show our growth here is better than the national growth rates,” he said.

On digital transactions, he said Telangana is way ahead compared to other states. As many as 20crore transactions is taking place digitally a month in Telangana, he said. KTR said Hyderabad houses nearly 2,000 start-ups in various stages.
