Monday blues for ICSE students

It all began with a section of the media from New Delhi reporting late on Sunday night that the ICSE results would be out on Monday.

Bengaluru: The faculty of several schools affiliated to the Indian School Certificate Examination (CISCE) had a tough time on Monday morning, answering a flood of phone calls from anxious parents and students, who wanted to know why the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE - Class X) examination results had not been announced.

It all began with a section of the media from New Delhi reporting late on Sunday night that the ICSE results would be out on Monday at 10 am on cisce.org. The CISCE didn't confirm the news, but nor was it denied by one of its officials, leading to confusion.

Hundreds of students from the city started tracking the website from 9.30 am expecting the results. When the results did not come out even at 10.30 am, worried parents and students started calling the schools and faculty, enquiring about the results. School faculty and staff, who were not aware of the development, found it hard to answer the queries.

Principals of two schools told Deccan Chronicle that it was shocking that the news report was put out without any confirmation. "Students and parents are obviously anxious to see the results. We take extra precaution to ensure that result-related issues do not stress the students or parents. Prior to announcing the results, the board alerts all the students and faculty on where and how the students can access their results. The board is expected to take another 8-10 days to announce them," said the principal from an elite school.

"All our faculty members received enquiries. When everyone is trying to make the examination system stress free, Monday's incident was unfortunate," he said.

What happened on Monday
A section of media reported that CISCE will announce the ICSE (class X) results on Monday at 10 am and that the results would be available on cisce.org. But as there was no sign of results on the website, parents and students started inquiring with the schools, which were not aware of the development.
