AP Human Rights Commission seeks report on girl's death
Hyderabad: The State Human Rights Commission on Monday ordered the Commissioner of Police in Vijayawada to submit a detailed report on the death of a girl, Saisri, who died of bone marrow cancer. The girl’s mother Sumasri alleged that her husband Shiva Kumar, with the help of MLA Bonda Uma, encroached on their house. Child Rights Activist Achyuta Rao filed a petition on this matter with the commission.
Achyuta Rao of Balala Hakkula Sangham NGO stated in his petition to the commission that Saisri’s father Maram Shiva Kumar, though he was rich, allegedly did not spend money for the girl’s treatment. The child had pleaded with him to help her with the treatment, and her mother Sumasri tried to sell the house which was registered in the child’s name, to find money for the treatment.
But, Shiva Kumar, with the assistance of his brothers and support of MLA Vijayawada Central Bonda Uma, allegedly stopped her from selling the house. The MLA’s men later “encroached” into her house, due to which she could not sell the house and bear the child’s treatment. This led to the child’s death on Sunday, the rights commission has been told.
“The act of the girl’s father Shiva Kumar, his brothers, Bonda Uma and his associates is a severe violation of the rights of a child,” Achyuta Rao said in his petition. He appealed to the commission to direct the Vijayawada police commissioner to probe the matter and book a criminal cases against the accused.
