Union minister Bandaru Dattatreya's cellphone is stolen

Police suspects that a visitor who came to meet the minister may have picked up the phone.

Hyderabad: Union minister Bandaru Dattatreya’s mobile phone was stolen from his residence at Ramnagar on Sunday. The minister had kept his Samsung J7 mobile for charging at the visitors hall on the ground floor and found it missing after an hour when he got ready to go out at about 9.30 am.

Police suspects that a visitor who came to meet the minister may have picked up the phone. The minister used to use the grey colour mobile, which he had purchased about six months ago, for official purposes and was kept in silent mode at the time of charging. There were around 30 visitors at the time of the incident.

Power supply to the house was cut after Saturday heavy rain and was restored in the morning. The battery in the phone had drained out, and he kept it for charging at 8 am after the power supply was restored.

“When we noticed the phone missing, we called the number but no one answered. We continued calling from different numbers. After some time, the phone was switched off,” said a source close to the minister.

Police and a CLUES team rushed to the spot. Police said that the CCTVs cameras at the residence were not working for the past week.

“We have collected CCTV footage from a mall located opposite the minister’s residence. Based on the investigation, we will proceed.” Musheerabad inspector B. Mohan Kumar said.
