Telangana: 16 killed as tipper hits auto
Telangana: Sixteen people including six children were killed in a terrible road accident near Degama village in Bhainsa mandal on Saturday midnight. The dead belonged to Ballad village in the Nanded district of Maharashtra and were working as labourers in brick kilns in the Naveepet mandal of Nizamabad district.
The tragedy occurred when the autorickshaw in which the labourers were travelling collided head on with a loaded tipper truck coming from the opposite direction.
The victims were going to the famous Adelli Pochamma Temple in Sarangapur of Adilabad district to fulfil their vow to have darshan there and participate in the festival there on Sunday morning.
The autorickshaw was fully crushed under the loaded tipper truck, resulting in serious injuries to the passengers in the auto. Around 18 people were traveling in the autorickshaw. Sources said 14 people died on the spot and two others died while undergoing treatment.
Minister for irrigation T. Harish Rao who stayed at Basar during the night visited Bhainsa hospital and met the injured undergoing treatment on Sunday morning. Mr Harish Rao spoke to the concerned ministers of Maharashtra and promised to give Rs 25,000 as compensation to the victims and financial assistance for the funeral.
Surprisingly, the goat which was being carried in the autorickshaw by the victims for sacrifice at the temple escaped the accident unhurt.
