Chennai: A sub inspector on his way to work on his bike died when he was run over by a corporation garbage truck on Sunday morning near Choolai post office. Police identified the deceased as Sub-Inspector Basheer (55) attached to the security branch of the state police.
“He was on his way to the state Secretariat for duty when he met with an accident. He had overtaken a garbage lorry while negotiating a turn and had to slow down to avoid a MTC bus coming from the opposite direction when he was hit by the corporation vehicle. Though he was wearing a helmet, he died on the spot after the vehicle ran over him,” police said.
A native of Malappuram in Kerala, Basheer was staying alone in the police quarters, while his family lives back in his native place. His wife is a nurse. His son had completed BTech while his daughter is studying in class IX, police said.
