Chennai: The major decision of going paperless in document registration has finally fructified as the state registration department had earned Rs 1262.07 crore through the new process.
The process of implementing the ‘STAR 2.0’ had received severe opposition from document writers and some of them had approached the High Court to scrap the new software. Meanwhile, a departmental data suggest that a total of 3,26,200 documents have been registered through online registration from February 13 to April 10.
“Although the total number of documents registered through conventional mode last year was 3,31,175 during the same period, the amount of revenue is higher than that of the previous year,” a department official said. During the period between February 13, 2017, and April 10, 2017, the revenue stood at '1,086.76 crore.
“The feedback received from the public is also seriously taken up and many steps have been taken to simplify the online process,” the official said. Also, the inspector general of registration, J. Kumaragurubaran in his affidavit to the Madurai Bench of High Court, said that the department would do away with the pre-verification process to make the system further user-friendly.
