Criteria for housing scheme unclear

Sources said the GHMC has constructed 176 two BHK units for 47 families living in Singam Cheruvu Thanda in Nacharam at a cost of Rs 13.64 crores.

Hyderabad: The Telangana state government is yet to take a decision over the eligibility criteria of beneficiaries for the flagship double bedroom housing project.

Even though foundation stones were laid across the state, the government has not confirmed whether unmarried members of a family can receive the houses, as had been promised by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao in May 2015.
He had announced that every member of a family would receive double bedroom houses. However, beneficiaries claimed that the officials have only distributed the houses to married members of the family and did not take adult, unmarried members in to account.

Sources said the GHMC has constructed 176 two BHK units for 47 families living in Singam Cheruvu Thanda in Nacharam at a cost of Rs 13.64 crores.
City Mayor Bonthu Rammohan said clarity on the issue would be given in a couple of days.

A total of 1 lakh houses are proposed to be built in the city. The civic body has acquired 650 acres of land Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy, Medchal and Sangareddy districts and has to invite tenders to construct the houses.
