Puducherry: Puducherry Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy urged the Centre to reconsider the decision to revise the fuel price on a daily basis from May 1. Puducherry is selected as one among the five cities where petrol and diesel prices will change on daily basis in keeping with international rates from May 1.
Apart from the Union Territory, major oil companies such as Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL) which own over 95 per cent of nearly 58,000 petrol pumps in the country, would launch the pilot project in cities including Visakapattanam in Andhra Pradesh, Udaipur in Rajasthan, Jamshedpur in Jharkhand and Chandigarh.
Fixing of petrol and diesel prices on a daily basis will not be practically possible and will only help to create confusion among dealers and customers, said the Chief Minister. Dealers will be hit hard when prices are marked down. Dealers of petrol and diesel have already expressed their dissatisfaction over the new plan, he added.
