PMK against EVMs, prefers ballot papers

S. Ramadoss on Saturday rejected the invitation of the DMK to participate in the all party meeting on April 16.

CHENNAI: Alleging that DMK president M. Karunanidhi is responsible for the prolonged Cauvery dispute, PMK founder S. Ramadoss on Saturday rejected the invitation of the DMK to participate in the all party meeting on April 16. Addressing a public meeting at Pallavaram here to felicitate him for the closure of liquor shops along the highways throughout the country, Ramadoss said Karunanidhi who was the Chief Minister in 1974 when the Cauvery water dispute began is responsible for the problem and the same party is convening a meet to solve the problems of farmers.

Lashing out at both the AIADMK and DMK, he said both the parties are responsible for all the evils including the Cauvery problem, liquor menace and corruption. He asserted that only the PMK could solve the woes of people and make the state a role model in the country. He also supported the demand of 16 parties including the Congress to go back to the ballot system in elections instead of the electronic voting machines which is used in only three out of 118 democratic countries.

He recalled that the PMK was the first to oppose the machines and demonstrated in front of the Election Commission officials how the EVMs could be tampered with. The PMK leader spent a considerable part of his speech to hit out at the media and said it did not support the PMK in the 2016 Assembly elections.
