IMD issues temperature warning for next 48 hours

Heat wave condition and light rainfall over isolated places will persist till May 11, according to meteorologist, S Ramachandran.

Chennai: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that parts of Tamil Nadu will face conditions of a heat wave and temperatures lasting from 37 degrees Celsius to 41 degrees Celsius in the next 48-hours.

According to a 15-day weather forecast released by IMD, parts of Tamil Nadu experienced a warmer than usual day on Friday with city temperature in the afternoon touching 37.2 degrees.

The heat wave and high temperatures will affect areas like Chennai, Tiruvallur, Nagapattinam, Kancheepuram, Vellore, Ramanadu. District collectors of these areas have warned the public about the conditions and asked the public to exercise caution while being outdoors.

Heat wave condition and light rainfall over isolated places will persist till May 11, according to meteorologist, S Ramachandran. “The heat wave and humidity will continue till May 11, with southern parts of Tamil Nadu receiving rainfall in isolated places,” he added.

He added that geocentric interplanetary study suggests that the sun with respect to Earth is in between Venus and Mercury, which is the cause for such hot condition in the state.

According to him, places in the state will see rainfall in isolated places until April 19. He added that till May 11, places, in south Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh, which are by the coast that will have some respite during the late afternoons because of sea breeze.

The period between May 11 and June 28 will continue to be hot and humid in Tamil Nadu and the Central region of India, he continued.
