Allot plots to ex-staff of Azam Jahi Mills: Hyderabad High Court

Court said denying a similar benefit to other ex-employees would amount to differential treatment.

Hyderabad: In major relief to the retired employees of erstwhile Azam Jahi Mills of Warangal district, the Hyderabad High Court has directed the authorities to allot house sites to all eligible retired employees on par with other former employees of the mill who were allotted plots of 200 sq. yd. each.

Justice M. Sitarama Murti was allowing a petition by the Modified Voluntary Retirement Scheme of 2002 of Azam Jahi Mill Workers Association seeking to declare as illegal the failure of the respondents to allot house sites to the 332 members of the association on par with the 134 ex-employees who were allotted sites in 2007.

The court said that when a benefit is conferred on 134 ex-employees, denying a similar benefit to other ex-employees would amount to differential treatment.
