Palaniswami, in his missive, also added that the state assembly had unanimously passed a resolution in its special session on Thursday.

Chennai: After passing a unanimous resolution in the state assembly urging the central government to constitute the Cauvery Management Board (CMB), Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami had sent a DO letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on CMB.

“Since 4 weeks have already lapsed without any positive outcome, the farmers and the people of Tamil Nadu who have been suffering for more than four decades, are deeply anguished,” Palaniswami said in the DO letter.

He also requested the Prime Minister to direct the Ministry of Water Resource, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation to notify the formation of the Cauvery Management Board and Cauvery Water Regulation Committee and enable them to function effectively.

Palaniswami, in his missive, also added that the state assembly had unanimously passed a resolution in its special session on Thursday. He also enclosed a copy of the resolution with his letter.

The government of India is duty bound to constitute and notify the formation of the Cauvery Management Board and Cauvery Water Regulation Committee within six months as per the judgment of Supreme Court on February 16, he said. He also clarified the PM that the ‘Scheme’ mentioned in the apex court order is nothing but the machinery for the implementation of the final order of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal.
