HYDERABAD: Social media intervened or else a cancer-afflicted child taking the Class X examination would not have had a scribe facility. Vahyak Ganjoo, 15, was all set to write the Class X Board exams, but the issue of scribe denial went viral on social media, garnering enough attention for the child’s school to get in touch with CBSE directly and ask it to consider the application.
The issue came to light when Kashmir activist Pawan Durani tweeted on Thursday that the child, his nephew, had been denied permission for a scribe. “I am shivering & have tears in my eyes, my cousin’s son undergoing chemotherapy & wanting to write exams is denied by CBSE ... Is there any humanity left,” he tweeted.
It was largely retweeted by many parents from Hyderabad as well who could not believe the incident.
Ms Swati Reddy of Save Education Society, Hyderabad, said, “This year CBSE informed that students who are physically disabled would be allowed to use laptops. It was a bid to promote inclusiveness. The fact that such an issue had to gain momentum to be accepted is sad. The board should have encouraged the child who still wanted to attend the exam despite going through a round of chemotherapy.” The young boy was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia on March 5.
