Nellore: Call to stop supplying contaminated water

Nellore: Expressing concern over contaminated drinking water that is being supplied to parts of the city, Nellore City legislator Dr P. Anilkumar Yadav requested the commissioner of Nellore civic body to take immediate action to ensure safe drinking water is supplied to the denizens of the city. During a meeting with Commissioner SK Alim Basha, the legislator reminded that at least 10 persons have reportedly lost their lives and around 20 persons were said to be suffering from kidney related ailments while 180 person are undergoing treatment in the hospital after consuming polluted water at Guntur recently.

Underlining the need to take preventive measures to avoid such a situation in Nellore, he expressed concern over the inaction by the Corporation though he had taken up the issue to the notice of higher officials in the past too. Dr Anilkumar has rebuked urban development minister P. Narayana for not ordering a probe into the Guntur incident while stressing that anyone else in the place of Narayana would have resigned taking moral responsibility for the deaths. He advised the Commissioner to replace defective pipelines or take alternative measures to supply potable water in 42, 43, 44, 46, 48, 49, 50 and 51 divisions where the drinking water is contaminated.
