Kerala: Students hit by teachers for splashing Holi
KOZHIKODE: A group of students of Farooq college, near Feroke, Kozhikode, who were conducting a ‘symbolic celebration’ of holi on the back courtyard of the college was allegedly attacked by teachers and non-teaching staff on Thursday. While Shabab Muhammed, a second year B.Com student, was seriously injured in his eye and is admitted on government general hospital (Beach), five others —Muhammed Shameem, Fhmi OP, Anees, Navas and Muhammed Anfas —sustained injuries. Feroke police has recorded the statement of the students. According to students, boys and girls had celebrated holi together on March 12, splashing colours on one another.
The photographs of the celebration went viral on the social media and that might have irked the staff as well as some of the local residents into attacking them on Thursday, they said. South ACP Abdul Razack KP said the police had reached the campus on Monday and dispersed the students as the celebrations had spread on to the road and the outsiders started complaining. The college management denied the allegation and said the clashes took place between the students and the local residents, that too outside the campus.
