Why is Telangana staff a vice-president, Hyderabad Cricket Association asked

Though counsels representing current management committee answered the queries of the bench, it was seemingly not convinced.

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad High Court on Wednesday asked the current management committee of Hyderabad Cricket Association why was Syed Moizuddin, a government employee, allowed to continue as its vice president, when the Justice Lodha Committee disqualified all government officials from holding offices in cricket bodies.

A division bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Ramesh Ranganathan and Justice Shameem Akhter was hearing a PIL by M. Govinda Reddy an advocate of the city, seeking to direct the HCA to implement the recommendation of Justice Lodha Committee.

While reading out a portion of BCCI observer Ratnakar Shetty’s report, the bench questioned as to why the former vice-president was allowed to be a part of the tender process wherein certain works were allotted on an urgent basis for the Indo-Bangladesh Test held recently in Hyderabad.

Though counsels representing current management committee answered the queries of the bench, it was seemingly not convinced. Counsels told the court that the same Shetty report also commended their role in conducting the match in a successful manner.

The bench also sought the response from the HCA officer-bearers on the plea of BCCI seeking appointment of an administrator to oversee the IPL matches scheduled in April at Hyderabad.

Senior counsel Vedula Venkata Ramana, Surender Rao and Vijayasen Reddy appearing for some of the current functionaries of the HCA, submitted that there was no need for an administrator as the HCA has limited role in conducting of IPL matches and most of the arrangements will be looked after by the franchise of the IPL.

They said that the HCA will just provide the stadium to the franchise. The bench will continue its hearing on Thursday.
