Telangana decides to denotify hardware SEZ

The state government has proposed to denotify the Electronic Hardware Manufacturing SEZ in Maheswaram of RR district.

Hyderabad: The state, which has the highest number of Special Economic Zones in the country, is also following the de-notification path.

The state government has proposed to denotify the Electronic Hardware Manufacturing SEZ in Maheswaram of RR district.

Earlier, the state government had allotted 275 acres for this SEZ, but now it wants to utilise the land for Electronic Hardware manufacturing cluster proposed by the Centre.

After Industrial Parks and Industrial Corridors came into existence, SEZs have lost their importance. Earlier, SEZs were given top priority by all states across the country.

Interestingly, of the 565 SEZs in the country, TS has 64 (11.33 per cent), but the Centre had notified only 387, of which TS had 45 notified SEZs.

The total number of operational SEZS in the country is 192, of which 21 are in TS. Of these 21, only seven SEZs, including the Electronic Hardware SEZ which the state proposes to denotify, were developed.
