Karnataka Budget: Govt to make life better for women police officers

Rs 10 crore has been allocated to increase basic infrastructure for women in Police Training Schools.

Bengaluru: The government has stressed on increasing the basic infrastructure for women in the police department. It has announced that Police Commisionerate will be set up in Kalaburagi.

Rs 10 crore has been allocated to increase basic infrastructure for women in Police Training Schools. Also, separate toilet facilities will be provided for women staff at all police stations across the state.

To enable early response of police, especially where offences against women and children are involved, technology-based police accessories will be provided. Forensic laboratories will be modernised and a Forensic Sciences & Technology Centre will be set up in Bengaluru at a cost of Rs 20 crore.

Prison: The budget has proposed to procure FG-1 security pole (portable full body scan system) for eight central prisons. Handheld metal detectors, door-frame detectors and basic medical checkup equipment will be provided to all prisons.

The construction of new prisons will be taken up in Karwar, Tiptur, Virajpet, Gangavati, Bidar and Tarikere. Also, 3rd stage works of women and convicted inmates’ prison of Bengaluru Central Prison will be started.
