Chennai: Activists forming human chain on Marina beach cause flutter

Chennai: A group of women activists caused a flutter on Marina beach on Wednesday after they attempted to stage a human-chain themed at empowering women.

As there was no permission accorded for their event, cops rushed to the scene and forced them away from the spot.

The development led to the group staging a protest and another social activist who recorded the eviction in his phone too was detained.

Pennurimai Iyakkam members were released later in the day along with the activist.

A youth who was picked up as accompanied by the group was later let off. The youth was allegedly tortured by the cops before being let off.
