Withdraw Karuna order: Kerala Pradesh Congress committee

The government had refused to withdraw the controversial order on Monday.

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Pradesh Congress committee (KPCC) has asked the government to cancel the controversial order allowing Poabs Group to pay basic tax on 830 acres of Karuna Plantations in Nelliyampathy even as KPCC vice-president V. D. Satheeshan and T. N. Prathapan, MLA, taking advocate-general K. P. Dandapani to task saying he was acting as the spokesperson of the estate lobby.

The government had refused to withdraw the controversial order on Monday. But KPCC president V. M. Sudheeran had expressed his dissatisfaction with the decision. Mr Prathapan who is considered a trusted lieutenant of Mr Sudheeran raised the issue along with Mr Satheeshan meeting much to the displeasure of the chief minister.

Senior Congress leader A. K. Antony demanded that youth leaders and newcomers be given adequate seats while majority of the speakers said those who have contested more than three times must step down.

AICC secretary in charge of the State Dipak Babaria has already reached the capital to attend the KPCC executive meeting as well as the first sitting of the Congress election committee meeting scheduled on Wednesday.

AICC general secretary Mukul Wasnik is also expected to attend the two crucial meetings on Wednesday. KPCC leadership is expected to reach New Delhi on March 19 with the list of candidates and announce the final list on March 22.
