Flying squads not to seize cash below Rs 50,000: CEO Rajesh Lakhoni
Chennai: Flying squads and static surveillance teams on poll duty have been instructed not to seize cash below Rs 50,000, Chief Electoral Officer Rajesh Lakhoni said here on Tuesday.
After attending a review meeting with the full commission of Election Commission on poll arrangements and security parameters in place for Tamil Nadu, he said there were complaints from traders that petty cash was also seized by squads on poll duty. Instructions have been given to the squads not to seize cash below Rs 50,000 and in case of cash that is confiscated but proved it had nothing to do with cash for votes will now be returned in two working days, he told reporters.
However, he advised companies and micro finance companies to ensure transactions through bank electronic funds transfer mode.
