Chennai: Class 7 boy, 20-year-old run over by MTC buses

Police have detained the busdriver and hunt is on for the autorickshaw driver.

Chennai: A 12-year-old boy and a 20-year-old man were run over by MTC (Metropolitan Transport Corporation) buses in separate incidents, on Tuesday.
D. Shyam, (12), resident of P.M. Dargah, Royapettah, was returning home when the accident took place.

The class VII student of a private school in Triplicane was cycling home along Natesan Road near Royapettah at around 4.30 pm, when an autorickshaw coming behind him knocked him down. The boy lost balance and fell down on the road while MTC route 12-G bus ran him over to death. Irate passersby blocked the bus from moving beyond, and called the local police.

The body was later moved to Government Royapettah Hospital for postmortem examination. Bus driver Ravikumar and Elumalai were picked up and the hunt for the autorickshaw driver is also on.

In the other incident, Balamurugan (20), was riding on CIPET Road, Guindy, when MTC route 570 bus knocked him down and ran him over. Balamurugan, a native of Nagapattinam, was on his way to Phoenix Market City where he worked in a private cineplex. Sai Sundar, an eyewitness, said that the bus driver did not even bother to stop the bus after causing the accident. “He just drove on, despite our efforts to warn him about the accident”, he said. Balamurugan was staying with his friends at Collector Nagar near Padi.
