Chennai: All 5 classrooms on first floor evacuated
Chennai: Angry parents gathered at Sri Sankara Vidyalaya Matriculation higher secondary school in Pammal on Tuesday, a day after 8 students were said to have been injured when a portion of the ceiling along with the ceiling fan came down on their heads during class hours.
Some who tried to gatecrash in order to thrash the correspondent Vishwanathan for his lapse were pacified. The school management took two parents as representatives from the crowd and took them in a guided tour around the school showing all the classrooms.
The school dismissed the incident as a mere rumour while the police said they were aware of what happened. “We have not registered any case since there was no complaint from either the parents or from anybody from the school”, said a police official.
The Inspector of Matriculation Schools (Kancheepuram), Chandrasekhar, said he had sought a detailed report into the incident. “We have ordered immediate evacuation of all 5 classrooms on the first floor. We have also directed the school to form a Parents Teachers Association and a committee comprising its members besides engineering experts to ascertain the safety of all the buildings in the school. Based on this, we would let them use the same buildings or to order their renovation to prescribed norms”, Chandrasekar told DC.
