THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: With election round the corner, political parties are taking more interest in the ongoing protest by the natives of Peringamala against the centralised waste treatment plant.
On Friday, Suresh Gopi, MP, visited the natives of Peringamala and extended solidarity for the ongoing protest.
Addressing the natives of Peringamala, Mr Gopi said that the very system which is responsible to protect the environmentally-sensitive Peringamala is trying to destroy it. He said that the plant will have an adverse impact on Peringamala.
He said that the issue will be taken up with the Union Environment Ministry.
When contacted, top leaders of the Congress and CPM refused to give their comments.
