Maddur taluk mourns death of soldier in Pulwama terror attack

He got married 10 months ago. Relatives await for the body.

Mysuru: A pall of gloom has descended on Gudigere colony in KM Doddi, Maddur taluk, where the parents and the young wife of 33 -year- old CRPF soldier, H Guru, killed in the Pulwama terror attack, wait to receive his body, wracked with grief at his sudden death.

The oldest of three sons of villagers, Honnaiah, and Chikkolamma, Guru was married to Kalavathi, his maternal uncle's 20-year- old daughter only 10 months ago. "He had come home on leave for a week and had returned to duty on February 11. But he has now left us once and for all and didn't even live with us in the new home we built a year ago, just before his marriage," cried his father, Honnaiah.

Joining the CRPF in 2011, Guru had served in the 94th battalion in Jharkhand and the 82nd battalion in Srinagar. Having done his primary education in the Divyajyothi school, he went on to do his mid-schooling in a government school in Srirangpatna, and his high school in another government school in KM Doddi, before joining the ITI in Malavalli.

Transport minister, D C Thammanna, Mandya MP, Shivaramegowda, BJP state chief, B S Yeddyurappa and senior BJP leader, R Ashok were among those who visited his home to meet his family and condole

his death. Adichunchangiri Math seer, Nirmalanandanatha swamiji too visited the soldier’s family.

Mandya district Deputy Commissioner, N Manjushree said all arrangements were being made for Guru’s cremation with full state honours once his body arrives in the village. “We are in touch with the CRPF,” she added.
