Nellore: In the backdrop of growing discontent among the Muslim community in Nellore after TDP decided to field urban development minister P. Narayana from Nellore City and former minister Adala Prabhakar Reddy from Nellore rural ignoring the claims of Mayor Abdul Aziz, the TDP high command promised the latter an MLC post on Friday.
Mr Aziz was keen on contesting from one of the two Nellore seats and his followers raised a hue and cry over him being ignored after the party announced the names of Mr Narayana and Adala for the two seats a few days back.
Sensing the mood of the Mayor and his followers, TD bigwigs invited Mr Aziz to Amaravati on Friday.
Sources in the TDP said, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and his son and panchayat raj minister Nara Lokesh assured an MLC post to Mr Aziz and that too before the elections.
TD leaders believe that agriculture minister Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy resigned from his MLC post on Friday to enable the party to offer the post to Mr Aziz.
