Smart city plan: T Nagar toilets to be refurbished
Chennai: The Chennai corporation, under the smart city mission, has invited private consultancy agencies to submit expression of interest (EOI) to prepare proposals for rehabilitation, retrofitting and maintenance of existing toilets in T Nagar.
The bustling T Nagar has been made a centre of infrastructure developments with new multi-level parking facility, pedestrian plaza and other amenities under area-based development (ABD) of central government's ambitious smart city mission.
According to Chennai corporation data, there are 200 toilets of varied types and sizes in T Nagar.
“The corporation has been giving uplift to the infrastructure in the area. When aiming for a comprehensive development, we should give equal importance to sanitation,” a Chennai corporation official said.
The consultancy firm should collect data, prepare database showing the location, type of toilets, type of building, number of seats for men and women and present condition of the toilets, explained the EOI invitation.
The official also said that the private firm has to study the toilet infrastructure and document rehabilitation works to be done at every toilet. “The toilets will be retrofitted with additional seats according to the study. The consultants also have to conduct the survey among the local residents and select locations for providing new toilets,” the official added. The civic body also has decided to impart training and sensitize residents about the upkeep of the toilets.
Survey on status of parks
The civic body has initiated a survey to ascertain if the residents are satisfied with the parks located in T Nagar.
The QR code-enabled survey questionnaire on the Chennai Corporation website includes Natesan, Jeeva, Sharma, Chari and Ellaiamman parks in T.Nagar and three other parks in Kodambakkam and CIT Nagar.
“Under smart city mission, these parks are set to be retrofitted with additional amenities. The survey will help us to make plans according to the public needs,” the official said
