Bengaluru: Security has been beefed up in Bengaluru, Mysuru and Mandya with a three-member bench headed by Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Dipak Mishra likely to deliver its final verdict on a batch of petitions filed by Karnataka and Tamil Nadu questioning allotment of water by the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal, on Friday.
Home Minister R Ramalinga Reddy told Deccan Chronicle that a large number of policemen have been deployed in all sensitive areas in Bengaluru city which witnessed arson last year over release of water to neighbouring Tamil Nadu.
Besides, sufficient police force has been deployed in Mandya district-the hotbed of the Cauvery agitation and also Mysuru city as a precaution. All senior officers have been asked to be on the rounds in linguistic minority areas from Friday morning.
Security personnel of Karnataka Industrial Security Force, District Armed Reserve and City Armed Reserve police had been deployed at Krishna Raja Sagar reservoir in Srirangapatna taluk of Mandya district. Apart from this, security would be high at Kabini Dam, Hemavathi and Harangi reservoirs.
"Having identified trouble-prone spots, we have stationed policemen in large numbers to prevent any untoward incident," Bengaluru City Police Commissioner T Sunil Kumar said. "As many as15,000 police personnel, 70 KSRP platoons and 30 CAR platoons have been drafted for security duty in Bengaluru city on Friday. The cops will deal with anyone who tries to take the law into their hands with an iron hand,"
