Chennai: The Madras high court has directed the Vepery police to register a case against Deepa, niece of former chief minister late J. Jayalalithaa,  and her driver, if a cognisable offence is made out in a complaint against them. Justice M.S. Ramesh gave the directive on a petition filed by N. Ramachandran, a businessman and former Kancheepuram district secretary of MGR Amma Deepa Peravai, which sought a direction to the police to register an FIR against Deepa and her driver A.V. Raja for allegedly borrowing Rs 1.12 crore from him and refusing to repay the same.

According to Ramachandran, they on many occasions approached him and obtained loans to the tune of Rs 1.12 crore for repaying her debts, renovating her house and her family expenses from January 2017.  Further, they collected the money by false inducement and the false promise that the person, who pays money, will be made as district secretaries and very soon they will be made as Ministers. But, subsequently, when he requested repayment , Deepa and Raja refused to repay the amount and instead they threatened him with the help of the Goondas.

Therefore, he lodged a complaint with Vepery police. But, because of the political background of the accused persons, the police was evading to register the case and conduct the investigation, he added.
