Kerala High Court grants anticipatory bail to green activist Purushan Eloor
KOCHI: The Kerala High Court has granted anticipatory bail to green activist and one of the leaders of Periyar Malineekarana Virudha Samithy, Purushan Eloor, in a case connected with the alleged fabrication of a report of the Kerala State Pollution Control Board. The court directed Purushan to appear before the investigation official within 10 days. The court observed that he should be released on bail if arrested during interrogation.
Social and human rights activists across the state had flayed the Varapuzha police for registering a case against Pursuhan and Shibu Manuel, another activist, on charges of fabricating a fake report in the name of Pollution Control Board official D. Chithrakumari. They pointed out that the report was obtained through proper official channel by three different persons separately.
Denying the charges of fabrication, the activists alleged that the police were fabricating cases against the activists to appease the Cochin Minerals and Rutiles Ltd facing allegations of causing pollution to river Periyar. The case was registered on a complaint filed by CMRL general manager Ajith Kartha alleging that the report was fabricated to force the closure of company.
