Hyderabad: Parents file plea against NIOS ban
HYDERABAD: Agitated parents of students studying in open schools in Hyderabad filed petitions in the High Court on Thursday after the Medical Council of India (MCI) banned National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) from Neet.
Mother of a student Pranav Chenichery from Hyderabad, Madhavi Latha Admimulam, a resident of Kondapur, admitted her son in Meridian school, Madhapur in class XI, but discontinued on account of financial hardships in May 2017. Later, they joined him under NIOS.
“My son was admitted to the Senior Secondary course under NIOS comprising English, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Data entry operations as core subjects.
We were shocked when we heard that NIOS students will not be allowed to appear for Neet. My son always dreamt of becoming a doctor but his dreams are shattered because of MCI’s decision to not allow NIOS students. My son is hardworking and is really stressed since he heard that he is not eligible to appear for Neet,” Madhavi said.
“Now my son has two choices, either to study intermediate or forget his dream of becoming a doctor. We just cannot leave our son depressed like this. So we filed a writ petition on Thursday in the Hyderabad High Court. We have less time as the last date for applications is near,” she added.
