Every Indian must protect cows: Hansraj Ahir Gangaram
Hyderabad: Union minister of state for home affairs Hansraj Ahir Gangaram said on Thursday that it is not the responsibility of Hindus alone to protect cows, it is the duty of every Indian to do so. He said though cow slaughter is already declared illegal across the country and a majority of states have prohibited either the slaughter or sale of cows, this is not being implemented effectively.
The minister made these remarks when visiting Satyam Shivam Sundaram Gau Nivas, South India's biggest Gau Nivas at Gaganpahad in Rajendra Nagar in Hyderabad. Thankfully, he did not advocate abusing, beating or killing people to attain his objective, but said, “We must make people realise the importance of cow systematically and peacefully.”
He said state governments must set up more cow shelters like in Rajasthan and Maharashtra. He appreciated Dharam Raj Ranka, a 77-year-old jeweller from the city who has dedicated his life to the protection of the cow and set up Satyam Shivam Sundaram Gau Nivas and has given shelter to 5300 cows rescued from slaughter houses over the last 25 years.
