Chennai: Observing that the lawyer’s profession, a noble profession, has come down to a worst condition, Justice N. Kirubakaran of Madras high court has said persons, who have not even passed eighth standard get MA degree through open universities and became lawyers and a person of such type has even started an association.
Lawyers are spoiling the honour of the profession. Also, senior advocates without taking initiatives to save this noble profession are keen to fill their pockets, said Justice Kirubakaran.
He made these observations orally when a mention was made on behalf of advocates Bhaskar Maduram and Lenin Kumar, who filed petitions relating to the new rules, prescribing qualifications and disqualifications for candidates contesting in the elections to the Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, framed by the special committee, constituted by the Bar Council of India to discharge the functions of the BCTP.
The advocates filed their petitions before the Madurai Bench of the Madras high court and a division bench headed by Justice Kirubakaran heard the petitions and said orders would be pronounced on February 12.
While so, since Justice Kirubakaran is sitting at the principal bench here, advocates on Thursday made a mention that since today is the last date for filing nominations to the elections to the BCTP, orders may be pronounced today. The judge said the order was getting ready and it would be pronounced on Friday.
