PIL to be filed against memorial for Jayalalithaa
Chennai: Social activist 'Traffic' Ramasamy is planning to file a PIL in the Madras high court against the construction of memorial at the burial place of former Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa as the corruption charges against her had been confirmed by the Supreme Court.
Ramasamy told Deccan Chronicle that the apex court had in its verdict indicted Jayalalithaa for amassing wealth disproportionate to her known sources of income. So, her portraits in government offices and public places should not be displayed and such portraits should be removed.
A memorial should not be constructed at her burial place. Already, a memorial had been constructed at the place for AIADMK founder MGR and another memorial could not come in the place. “I have sought an explanation from the Chief Secretary and PWD.” After obtaining a copy of the verdict, he would file a PIL in the Madras High Court, he said.
