Parents protest at Government College, Madappally SFI atrocities'

The SFI says that Inquilab is the mask of Jamaat-e-Islami's student wing, Student's Islamic Organization (SIO).

Kozhikode: The students of Government College, Madapally, along with their parents took out a protest march demanding an end to the ‘SFI atrocities’ in the college on Wednesday. The protest under ‘Madapally College Janathipathya Samrakshana Vedi’ was triggered by a series of clashes between the SFI and ‘Inquilab’ students’ organisation.

The Inquilab students had staged a march on February 1 in the wake of the Law Academy incident which led to a clash between the rival activists. Inquilab students, including girls, were injured in the attack by SFI members.

According to Inquilab college unit secretary Aadil Ali, the Inquilab students were assaulted the next day also. “This was the context in which the parents too joined the protest. The college has been witnessing the dictatorship of SFI for decades. Other students’ organisations are not allowed to function. Such attempts would be dealt with physically by the SFI,” alleged Ali.

But the SFI says that Inquilab is the mask of Jamaat-e-Islami’s student wing, Student’s Islamic Organization (SIO). “They cannot work in the name of SIO. Hence, they call it Inquilab which is not recognized by the college authorities. The incident on February 1 was minor. They used it and filed a police complaint through girls,” SFI state committee member N. Nidhin said.

He alleged that the parents who participated in the protest on Wednesday were mostly Jamaat-e-Islami workers. Meanwhile, Aadil Ali said that Inquilab has not only SIO members but KSU, MSF and students owing allegiance to the Revolutionary Marxist Party (RMP).

Welfare Party state president Hameed Vaniyambalam inaugurated the protest. The SFI conducted another programme, ‘Nerinte Prathirodham’ on Wednesday in which its central committee member Khadeejath Suhaila took part.
