Kidnapping FIR against VK Sasikala, proxy

After registering the case a police team went to the resort and conducted an enquiry with Edapadi Palanisamy.

Chennai: The Koovathur police on Wednesday registered a FIR against AIADMK general secretary VK Sasikala and legislative party leader Edappadi Palanisami under sections of kidnapping and criminal intimidation based on a complaint from Madurai (south) MLA, SS Saravanan who claimed that the party bosses confined him and other MLAs in a resort to prevent them from switching loyalty to O Panneerselvam camp.

The police have slapped a case under IPC sections 342 (wrongful confinement) 343 (wrongful confinement for three or more days) , 353 (assault on government servant to deter from discharging duties), 365 (kidnapping) and 506/1 (criminal intimidation) against the AIADMK leaders and three others.

MLA Saravanan who ‘escaped’ last Monday from the private resort in Koovathur, 90 km from Chennai, had claimed that he was confined with other MLAs by force and he was traumatised emotionally and physically. He had also said that he managed to escape Monday afternoon by walking away in Bermuda shorts and a T-shirt. “The guards could not recognise me,” he had said.

After registering the case a police team went to the resort and conducted an enquiry with Edapadi Palanisamy, who is also highway minister of Tamil Nadu, amid protests by his supporters. Palanisamy reportedly told the police team that the complaint was a foisted one.

North zone inspector general of police N K Senthamarai Kannan and Kancheepuram SP J Mutharassi were present at the resort along with the heavy deployment of police. Police later asked as many as 17 men to vacate the resort. Police claimed those men were not MLAs and were found wandering in the resort.
