Bengaluru: Residents walk to save Nallurahalli in Whitefield
BENGALURU: Over 200 members of Nallurahalli Rising and Whitefield Rising marched peacefully under the banner of “Nallurahalli Kapadi” to attract the attention of civic authorities to inadequate civic amenities in Nallurahalli.
They demanded that the authorities should save sinking and stinking roads. They wanted restoration of the road, clearing of garbage piles, repairing of accident-prone roads. The members, young and old, women and men, joined hands and walked for 1.5 km from Post Office to Ambedkar Statue in one hour. Children and residents stood with placards in protest.
Led by a band of drummers and accompanied by a contingent of police, traffic police and traffic wardens, the protesters carried placards, wore black and donned masks, symbolising the pathetic condition of one of Whitefield's oldest roads. The protesters assembled at Nallurhalli junction. The road connects Inner-Outer Circle and Main Road to the Export Promotion Industrial Park (EPIP) and International Tech Park Bangalore (EPIP).
Office-goers took half-a-day leave, while children and teachers from many of the 14 pre-schools in the area participated. Organised by Nallurahalli Rising along with Whitefield Rising, the protesters came in from Hagadur, Kadugodi, Garudacharpalya and Hoodi wards.
