Telangana admits, Doctors split list flawed

The final list shows 163 doctors from AP as being posted in Telangana state.

Hyderabad: Citing 1,536 vacancies in teaching colleges in Andhra Pradesh and 746 in Telangana, director of health and medical education Dr M. Ramani has written to the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Committee to shift all AP doctors to their native state.

The final list shows 163 doctors from AP as being posted in Telangana state.

With mounting pressure from Telangana doctors, Dr Ramani, in a letter to the committee, has admitted that Andhra Pradesh doctors didn’t submit their education certificates but still opted for Telangana.

According to sources, the letter pointed out that there were many faculties in TS but very few vacancies. At the same time, a large number of doctors were waiting for promotions as well as post-graduate students waiting to join government service. Due to this reason, it would not be possible to accommodate AP doctors in TS.

Dr Ramani has now requested that all these 163 doctors be transferred to Andhra Pradesh.

A senior TS doctor told this newspaper: “There is mounting pressure on the DME to act and rectify the mistake. The AP Reorganisation Committee had asked in September 2015 to verify the list. Had the process of verification been carried out by the officials, these problems would not have occurred.”

The Telangana Joint Action Committee has often raised a hue and cry to remove the director, alleging favoritism towards AP doctors.

A senior officer in the health department said, “TS government is of the view that the work of bifurcation must be completed without any partiality. But at the same time, removal of the director will only cause further delays.”
