Solar scam: Minister erred, insists panel

KOCHI: The Justice G Sivarajan Commission probing the solar scam on Monday expressed dissatisfaction on the affidavit filed by labour minister Shibu Baby John expressing regret over his criticism of the Solar Commission proceedings in connection with the deposition of the Chief Minister Oommen Chandy.

The Commission while receiving the affidavit and it does not behove a person holding the post of a minister to make speeches disparaging the commission. Justice Sivarajan also said that the statements in the affidavit do not buttress the spirit of unconditional regret expressed by the minister.

Mr John had said in a political speech in Anjalumoodu in Kollam that it was not appropriate for the chief minister to waste his valuable time by sitting in front of oglers for 14 hours and he had advised the CM against this, in reference to the deposition of Oommen Chandy before the Solar Commission.

Advocate C Rajendran had submitted a petition before the Commission in this regard and the commission had sent a notice to Mr John following which he expressed regret.

The Commission also decided to give an application to the government to extend its term by another six months from April 27, with the consent of all concerned including government's advocate.

Saritha S Nair did not attend the commission's sitting on Monday and her lawyer informed that she was indisposed. He also informed that she has a case in Coimbatore court on Tuesday.

The Commission came down heavily on the act of Saritha not to be present and asked if there was any hidden reason behind her absence. He asked her to be present on Thursday.
