DMK to interview MLA aspirants for Assembly polls from Feb 22
Chennai: The DMK leadership will begin interviewing prospective candidates who had sought party tickets for the coming state Assembly elections, from February 22-27.
The interviews, to be held at the party headquarters, Anna Arivalayam, here for six days, will see DMK patriarch and nonagenarian M. Karunanidhi, chairing the interview sessions. Despite his age, he had never missed any opportunity to interview his party aspirants in the past.
According to sources, the party had received over 8,000 applications from Jan. 24 to Feb.10 from party functionaries seeking tickets to contest the Assembly election. About 3,000 applications were received on the last day alone.
In a statement here on Monday party general secretary K. Anbazhagan said DMK chief M. Karunanidhi will interact with the prospective candidates and ascertain the situation in various constituencies besides analyse the winning prospects of the party. Announcing the schedule Anbazhagan said the interviews would be held for each district commencing with Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Tuticorin, Ramanathapuram, Virudhunagar, Theni and Dindigul on the first day.
The interview of candidates for Sivaganga, Madurai and Erode will be conducted on the morning of February 23. In the evening, ticket seekers from Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Salem, Tiruppur would be interviewed.
The interview for Pudukkottai, Namakkal, Trichy, Karur, Perambalur and Ariyalur would be held on February 24. On the next day (February 25), the ticket seekers from Natapattinam, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur, Cuddalore, Villupuram, Krishnagiri and Dharmapuri would be interviewed. Similar session would be conducted for Tiruvannamalai, Vellore, Kanchipuram, Tiruvallur and Chennai on February 26, Puducherry and Karaikal on the last day (February 27).
Only the district secretaries corresponding to the interview dates could participate in the interview sessions besides the prospective candidates, Anbazhagan added.
