Anna University postpones election to teachers' association
Chennai: In a sudden development, Anna University postponed the election to teachers’ association scheduled on Monday citing administrative reasons.
DC had carried a story on Monday saying that election to the Anna University Teachers’ association has brought the issue of Career Advancement Scheme (CAS) for the teaching faculty to centrestage.
It is learnt that the deputy registrar had called the election officer and asked him to postpone the elections to the association.
The university authorities also pointed out that the association didn’t seek any prior permission for conducting the elections and only informed about the process. I.Arul Aram, an associate professor from the department of chemistry,
and K.Selvamani, an assistant professor from the department of computer science, are contesting for the AUTA president’s post.
The protest by the staff of the constituent colleges at the Guindy campus on Sunday may have prompted the move by University authorities, sources said.
“As an institution of higher education, Anna University should rather encourage teachers to participate in a democratic process than discouraging it,” a professor said.
