Andhra Pradesh gets Rs 280.19 crore drought assistance

Earlier on January 6, the panel had sanctioned Rs 433.77 crore to AP state as drought assistance.

Hyderabad: The Union government has announced a drought assistance of Rs 280.19 crore to AP from the National Disaster Relief Fund (NDRF).

The high-level committee, headed by Union home minister Rajnath Singh, met in Delhi on Monday and sanctioned the amount. The meeting was also attended by finance minister Arun Jaitley.

Earlier on January 6, the panel had sanctioned Rs 433.77 crore to AP state as drought assistance, but the fund has not been released yet. Hence, AP officials are confused. They are not sure whether the fund sanctioned on Monday was in addition to the funds announced last month or whether it has reduced the drought assistance to Rs 280.19 crore from Rs 433.77 crore.
