10-year efforts have borne fruit: Tiruchy Dy Mayor

The corporation should continue its efforts further to ensure a garbage free city.

Tiruchy: J Srinivasan, deputy mayor of Tiruchirapalli, said this credit must go to the Chief Minister she sanctioned adequate funds besides providing guidance time to time. Srinivasan said as Amma was representing Srirangam in the Assembly, she was keen to develop Tiruchirapalli. Because of her tireless efforts, the city corporation got third rank in the Swachh Bharat Mission survey. He said they have been working for the last 10 years to achieve this goal.

Especially, the city corporation had established toilets as per the population ratio and the maintenance of public toilets entrusted with women self help groups, with close monitoring by corporation staff.

M .Vijayalakshmi, corporation commissioner, expressed her happiness and thanked her colleagues and the councillors for this great achievement. She said the same efforts will be continue to sustain this grade.

State advisor of Makkal Sakthi Iyakkam K. C. Neelamegam though was happy said they were not satisfied because “We have go a long way to go in cleaning up the city. The corporation should continue its efforts further to ensure a garbage free city.

Tiruchy district Exnora president C Balasubramanian, also felt happy and said he did not know the yardstick and other norms for ranking Tiruchy in the third place.
They came out with “Clean Tiruchy-Green Tiruchy’’ mission but they were not happy over the corporation’s garbage removal activities, as garbage had accumulated in many places for want of adequate scavengers and trucks.

Stray dogs, pigs and cattle menace is another hardship for the city residents. The corporation should find a way to eradicate this menace and to appoint more scavengers.

He said the Tiruchirapalli corporation and the district administration should work further and ensure there is a sustained endeavour to deserve the honour.
